Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP)
General Information
Agency: Strengthening Families Initiative
Program name: Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP)
Description : The Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP) is one of three programs under the Strengthening Families Initiative (SFI). The NPP provides parents with additional parenting skills, life skills and nutrition education. The program services parents with infants, preschool, school-age and adolescent children. The NPP also provides classes to adoptive, foster and teen parents.

NPP classes and class materials are available in English and in Spanish. Classes are offered at various times and locations throughout New Mexico. Each class meets once a week for two and a half hours and for fifteen to seventeen weeks. A children's program runs simultaneously with the parents' program, and all family members participate in a half hour of nurturing time.

Some of the topics covered in the classes include: family morals, values and rules; praising children and their behavior; communicating feelings; ages and stages; building self-worth; dealing with stress; understanding feelings; alternatives to spanking; and, many more!
