Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
General Information
Agency: Equine Assisted Programs
Program name: Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
Description : Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is the professional mental health field in which horses are used to support emotional growth and development. EAP involves the collaboration of a mental health professional, equine specialist, a client and horses. People can learn about strengths by observing feelings, behaviors, and patterns mirrored by horses. Also available is Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) which uses EAP processes but emphasizes team building, experiential learning, and development of organizational and communication skills rather than clinical experiences. Team building through human interaction with horses offers new tools for work groups, churches and organizations to improve their social interaction and communication.
