APA Pet Food Bank
General Information
Agency: ACTion Programs For Animals (APA)
Program name: APA Pet Food Bank
Description : The pet food back helps feed the animals of low-income, disabled, unemployed, and other families. Its purpose is to help keep animals in the home during times of economic need so families don't have to relinquish them at the shelter and so that animals do not suffer hunger.
Hours of Operation: Every Second Saturday of the Month, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Eligibility Requirements: Recipients have to show proof of residency in Dona Ana County and proof of economic need. The latter can be shown by pay stubs, unemployment records, or records of being in other assistance programs. It can also be shown by median-income families with medical bills, etc. After receiving assistance for six months in a row, long-term recipients are asked to give back to the program by volunteering or by becoming more responsible pet guardians and working with APA to address the animal-welfare issues in our community, such as the need to spay/neuter to avoid the overpopulation our animal shelter is plagued with.
Intake Procedure: We distribute food every second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in a parking lot on the corner of Westgate Rd./Westgate Ct. off Amador. Recipients are asked to not show up earlier than 9:30 a.m. due to limited parking space, and while in line, any new applicants can fill out their applications. The first time, applicants must show proof of their economic situations and/or proof that they reside in our county.
