Adolescent Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Education, and Empowerment |
| Description : |
|
Planned Parenthood of New Mexico provides a menu of prevention activities to schools, community centers and other youth programs. Our multi-seesion classroom programming provides age appropriate instruction on topics ranging from: Puberty and its changes, effective communication, sexual decision-making and values, risks of sexually transmitted disease, discussion of media, contraception, peer pressure. Each of the series include activities designed to require students to consider their health. PPNM will train interested and involved youth to be peer educators. This training, coupled with service activities in their community provides means for disseminating health information while empowering youth. PPNM is pleased to bring young teens and their parents together for a one or two evening, Nuestros Cambios workshop. This workshop assists families in addressing the sometimes difficult issues of adolescence and they learn that it can be fun! PPNM will train parents independence of their children as well. We also have a "community engagement process" that we will facilitate with any community that wants to address a problem with teen pregnancy (or, some other sexual health issue) and wants to get community members involved in developing and supporting the solutions.
