Nutrition Education

Program assists home daycare centers which serve children from infancy through age 12.

Provides services in five counties for day care providers conducting day care for children in their own homes. A non-resident must be present in order for a daycare provider to participate in the CACFP and the home must meet and abide by health and safety regulations. The day care provider will be reimbursed for nutritious meals that meet USDA standards and are served to the children in their care. Child development, parenting and nutrition education classes are also provided free of charge to each participant. There is a $15.00 yearly charge for a day care provider to participate in the CACFP.

Program staff will also register day care providers that are participating in the Child Care Assistance Program and not necessarily in the CACFP program. Hours of Operation: Between 11 AM - 1:30 PM depending on location
Eligibility Requirements: Call for application. In order to participate, the home daycare must be inspected and must meet standards. Income guidelines are also considered. Menus are reviewed on a regular basis. THE SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM provides free meals to children through out Las Cruces in 12 different locations. Children are welcomed each day to receive free breakfasts and lunches. Poverty stricken and subsidized housing areas are targeted for this service. Children are involved in learning about good nutrition and developing healthy eating habits through nutrition education and game playing activities. Areas Served- Young Park, Walnut Grove Housing, Klien Park, Tres Arboles Housing, Central Elem. School, Mayfield High School, Valley Vista Housing, Dona Park Apts., Jason Jiron Park, Boys and Girls Club of Las Cruces, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and Fielder Haven House.
