Description:
AARP in Idaho utilizes volunteers for many different projects including Tax Aide and Driver Safety to name a few. Currently we are looking for what we call Capitol City Task Force members. These are volunteers who work together with the Advocacy Director in attending coalition meetings for utilities, hunger, health care, transportation, manufactured homes, etc. Volunteers also assist the Advocacy Director during the legislative session. The volunteers track bills and testify in committee hearings for AARP supported legislation. Volunteers are provided with talking points and mentoring by the Advocacy Director for all legislation and testimony.
History:
AARP was founded 50 years ago by Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus on the principles of collective purpose, collective voice and collective purchasing power. She saw AARP as an army of concerned Americans committed to promoting and enhancing the public good. Today there are nearly 40 million members and considered to be the leading advocate for the 50+ population, and one of the nation's top lobbying groups. We do not make political contributions nor endorse or oppose candidates for office. We are strictly nonpartisan.
