Blackfoot Community Center

The mission of the Blackfoot Community Center is to empower youth, families, and community by promoting opportunities for healthy emotional, social, and physical growth. We aim to provide an accessible and affordable environment that is physically safe, emotionally supportive, and developmentally challenging, especially in the after school hours. We seek to be a catalyst for positive youth development and a stronger community by addressing the need for pro-social environments and opportunities that will promote better academic and social outcomes.

Description:
The Blackfoot Community Center is a multi-faceted community center that offers educational and recreational classes for all ages, hosts community events, and is available for facility rental for private venues. Our programs of highest priority are our SHARK after school program and our Summer Day Camp Program. Our goals are to ensure that no one is turned away for inability to pay; to help build a sense of community and belonging among residents; to cultivate an environment for appreciation of and participation in the arts; to provide opportunities for social activities, education, and social development to all children and adults; to partner with community organizations to provide protection, education, nourishment, and social services for vulnerable and at-risk youth, to organize and sponsor community events, to organize and offer volunteer opportunities, to provide space for individuals and groups to meet, learn, and celebrate, to provide information about community issues, people, and events; and to refer people requesting assistance to appropriate individuals and agencies.

History:
The Blackfoot Community Center opened in February 2007 and began by offering affordable recreation and education classes to the community. In Summer 2007, the community center offered its first Summer Day Camp program and, with much success, expanded with its first after-school program in September 2007. The community center has continued to offer both summer and after-school programming and has seen growth and success each season. The community center is run and operated by the dedicated efforts of volunteers who see the need and share the vision. BCC recently received 501c3 status and will seek funding to support our mission and vision, as well as the staff required to maintain sustainability.
