Agency Details:
The mission of the Plymouth Community Food Pantry is to strive to be an outreach agency providing food subsidies and referral services for families and individuals in partnership with other community organizations. The pantry is working to foster a caring atmosphere for the welfare of our community. Our intended outcome is to help meet the basic human needs of people in our community.
Description:
The Plymouth Community Food Pantry distributes food to the hungry and undernourished residents of the town of Plymouth. The food pantry is a "Client Choice" facility. Instead of packing generic bags, shoppers are allowed to select the food items they desire. As the mission statement says, we "foster a caring atmosphere." In this judgment free zone, we help to empower people to help themselves. Relationships are formed, with an all-volunteer staff lending their years of experience to the new families they serve. We provide food, information about nutrition, referrals, recipes, job listings as we aim to serve our shoppers with whatever needs they may have.
We also accept donations of nonperishable food and related items. Call for info on donation sites. Volunteers are always welcome.
History:
The Plymouth Community Food Pantry began 16 years ago as an ecumenical organization in the Terryville Congregational Church. Since then we have grown. We have also moved. We are now located at 20 Dewey Ave. in Terryville, CT 06786. We are set up like a grocery store with isles and shopping carts. As of June 2009, we serve close to 500 people in the community. Stop by and get to get a tour and get to know the Plymouth Community Food Pantry.
