Plainville Community Schools

The goals of the Plainville Community Schools Volunteer Program are 1) to improve educational achievement, 2) to enrich the curriculum, extend the children's horizons, and increase their motivation for learning, 3) to improve services to children in media centers, offices, and general activities, and 4) to provide opportunities for interested community members to participate in the education process.

Description:
The Plainville Community Schools Volunteer Program is school-based and engages volunteers as mentors, tutors, classroom and office helpers, and reading partners. Mentors work one-to-one with students in Grades 1-12 to provide a positive, adult role model. Mentors meet with students once a week during the school year on school grounds. Tutors work either one-to-one or in small groups with students in Grades 1-12 and provide academic support and coaching. Tutors meet with students once a week during the school year on school grounds. Classroom and office volunteers assist teachers and other staff in various assigned duties. Reading partners meet with students in Grades 1-5, during lunch one day per week, to share books and conversation.
