Volunteer Opportunity Details:
Share your love of reading with a child who may not have access to books or someone to spend time listening to them read. Volunteers will tutor students in reading at local Elementary Schools. Volunteers spend 30 minutes twice a week reading with students who are at risk of failure. Students experience needed reinforcement in reading and develop trusting, caring relationships. Teachers report that volunteer efforts help students improve skills, self esteem, and develop a positive attitude toward school. Volunteers need to be at least 55 years of age. No teaching experience is necessary, only the desire to help a child learn. Twice weekly commitment needed. Training for volunteers is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Bristol Public Library beginning at 9:30 a.m. The training will be provided by school literacy specialist. Hand-outs and refreshments will be available. Call RSVP at 584-9533 to register for the training. This opportunity is sponsored by: Retired And Senior Volunteer Program Of Greater Bristol (RSVP)
