The Mental Health Center, (South Central Montana Regional Mental Health Center), headquartered in Billings, is a private, non-profit corporation dedicated to the establishment and maintenance of high quality mental health and chemical dependency care in South Central Montana.

The Mental Health Center staff of over 150 qualified psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, nurses, case managers, chemical dependency counselors and support staff offer the most comprehensive mental health and chemical dependency evaluation and treatment services in South Central Montana, serving eleven counties with an approximate population of 172,645 and an area of 25,625 square miles.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES
provide counseling, psychotherapy and evaluation. Individual, group and family therapy are also available.
EMERGENCY SERVICES
are provided by licensed mental health professionals to Mental Health Center clients 24 hours a day / 7 days a week / 365 days a year.
CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY SERVICES
Journey Recovery program offers an intensive outpatient program that includes assessment, evaluation, drug testing, case management, prevention and education. Individual, family and group counseling are also offered. Youth Case Management is provided to adolescents with chemical dependency or abuse issues.
CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES SERVICES
offer consultation and emergency response to the Montana Women’s Prison and other correctional facilities.
OLDER ADULT SERVICES
assist aging clients who are at high risk for emotional distress because of the potential for multiple losses (health, income, spouse, friends, and even status).

VETERANS ADMINISTRATION SERVICES
provide psychiatric services, medications management, group and individual psychotherapy as well as case management to qualified veterans.
CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES
are targeted toward adults who suffer from a severe and disabling mental illness and who are homeless or at high risk of becoming homeless. Youth Case Management is provided to adolescents with chemical dependency or abuse issues.
PATH (Programs for Assistance in Transition for Homelessness) is a federally-funded, state-administered program providing practical case management services to people who are homeless. In FY 2007, three case managers are based at the HUB. Outreach is delivered through the Men’s Mission, Women and Family Shelter, city/county jail and our community.
RESIDENTIAL SERVICES
currently have two group homes and one co-op for clients who are currently not prepared for independent living.
RAINBOW HOUSE
is a rehabilitation day treatment program that promotes daily living, social and occupational skills for people with long-term mental disabilities.
THE HUB
provides an extensive array of drop-in services for individuals with a mental illness who are homeless or at high risk of becoming homeless. Case management, outreach, vocational, and medical services (YCCHD's Healthcare for the Homeless) are also available.
THE PACT TEAM (Program for Assertive Community Treatment)
a "hospital without walls," offers an intense level of daily one-to-one psychiatric care, medication management, chemical dependency counseling, nursing care, case management and vocational rehabilitation for individuals with severe mental illness.
JOURNEY RECOVERY program offers an intensive outpatient program that includes an initial assessment, follow-up evaluation, drug testing, case management, prevention and education. Individual and family counseling as well as therapeutic groups that deal with issues associated with chemical dependency are also offered. Youth Case Management is provided to adolescents with chemical dependency or abuse issues.
MEDICAL SERVICES
are provided as part of the continuum of care for outpatient clients. Psychiatrists and a nurse practitioner perform psychiatric evaluations and assessments, provide psychotherapy, and prescribe medications when necessary. In-patient services are provided in partnership with Billings Clinic.
EMERGENCY SERVICES:

COMMUNITY CRISIS CENTER, a community partnership
Persons may access care through the Community Crisis Center (CCC), located 702 N. 30th Street. The CCC is provided in partnership between the Mental Health Center, Billings Clinic, St. Vincent Healthcare and the Yellowstone City-County Health Department. Hours are 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
LOCAL HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOMS
A Mental Health Center emergency worker will respond at the doctor’s request.
History:
In September 2006, the Mental Health Center (MHC) celebrated 35 years of providing quality mental health services to South Central Montana. The main campus of the MHC opened its doors in September 1971 with 8 employees on staff, including founding physicians Dr. Bryce Hughett and Dr. Donald Harr.
