The Billings Parks, Recreation & Public Lands Department is to plan, develop, maintain and expand cost efficient, quality parks, facilities and cemeteries while offering diverse recreation programs that benefit everyone.
Description:
The Parks, Recreation and Public Lands Department employs 28 full time and 300 temporary and seasonal employees on a annual basis. Despite these numbers there is always more work than the employees can complete. The Department manages nearly 3,000 acres of park and public lands for the benefit of the community. This property also includes the Mount View Cemetery, Par 3 Golf Course, Swimming and Wading Pools and Recreation/Community Centers.
History:
The Parks, Recreation and Public Lands Department has been in existence for over 70 years. Historic parks such as North, South, and Pioneer, have been at the center of Billings' community and life from the city's inception. The park system and recreation facilities in them have continued to grow as the city and the area has expanded. The Department has had a long history of using volunteers to complete the departments mission. Service clubs, eagle scouts and volunteers from the community pitch in every year to assist with the care and management of our park system.
