The volunteer serves as a court appointed special advocate for a child or sibling group who is in the court system due to allegations of child abuse and neglect. The volunteer gets to know the child and visits the child regularly, interviews parents, grandparents, teachers, counselors, neighbors, anyone who knows something about the child. Working closely with the guardian ad litem and the volunteer supervisor, the objective, case-related information is analyzed and a recommendation provided regarding the future of the child. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. The volunteer applicant completes a thorough screening process of interviews, background checks, and 30 hours of pre service training. The CASA agrees to a commitment of at least 18 months and spends 10-20 hours each month on the case.  This opportunity is sponsored by: Yellowstone CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)
