Lamorinda Adult Respite Center
The mission of the Lamorinda Adult Respite Center (formerly Valley Adult Day Care Center) is to enhance the quality of life for each adult day program participant while providing support to the entire family.
Description:
Lamorinda Adult Respite Center (LARC) is open Monday thru Thursday from 11am - 3pm and provides stimulating activities for persons with dementia. The center is staffed with an administrative coordinator and activity leader each day along with two volunteers. This is a supportive and interactive adult day program that fosters individualized attention and a safe and secure environment. The Center provides meaningful and fun social activities, music and art therapy, stimulating word games, chair exercises that increase health and well-being, visits from the Preschool, community pet therapy, the Zoo Mobile, and singing groups.
History:
The Center opened in 1997 under the name Valley Adult Day Care Center to provide activities for adults with Alzheimer's/related dementias and respite for caregivers. Volunteers support the staff in promoting the highest level of self-worth in the participants. Caregiving for a relative with Alzheimer's Disease is a commitment that many families face each day. LARC supports those families seeking to help a loved one remain happy, active, safe and living at home for as long as possible. LARC is a state licensed facility and is located at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in Orinda.
