HARP Homeless Animals Response Program
Homeless Animals Response Program (H.A.R.P.) is an all volunteer animal welfare organization working to end pet overpopulation in far East Contra Costa County through community education, spay and neuter programs, and adoptions
Description:
HARP rescues dogs and cats from local animal shelters and from members of the public who cannot care for their pets. We spay and neuter, implant micro chips, update immunizations, de-worm, and in the case of cats and kittens test for feline aids and leukemia. We foster the dogs and cats in our homes. We care for them until they are ready for adoption. On weekends we take them to local pet stores so they can be viewed by the public. They are adopted into their new forever homes. We have a Kids Club for middle school children at Black Diamond Middle School in Antioch. The children have done food drives, visited Antioch Animal Services, and have been given presentations about pet care.
History:
HARP has been in existence since February 2006. We have about 50 volunteers who devote many hours to our various activities and fund raisers. Some volunteers donate their time once a year to help with Santa pictures with pets. Others foster dogs or kittens and also help at the CornFest, at the Dog Wash in Brentwood, and walk in the 4th of July parade in Antioch. There is no minimum hour limitation for volunteers. We appreciate the time someone may spend.
