Satellite Housing provides affordable, service-enriched housing for senior citizens with limited options.

Our Objectives:

  • Increase the area's supply of affordable housing available to low and very low-income individuals
  • Provide uniformly high quality living environments for all of Satellite's residents
  • Enable Satellite's residents to remain independent as they age in place
  • Description:
Since its inception in 1966, Satellite Housing, Inc. has developed 20 residential properties that provide affordable, service-enriched housing for over 1,400 seniors and persons with disabilities. Ten of Satellite's buildings are located throughout Oakland, while the remaining properties are located in Berkeley, Fremont, Newark, Pittsburgh and Walnut Creek.

The purpose of the Satellite Housing, Inc.’s Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing’s residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
