Tri City Free Breakfast Program
We serve a hot, nutritious breakfast three mornings a week to hungry individuals in the Tri-cities area, including ethnically diverse at-risk children, families at or near poverty level, homeless, working poor, and senior citizens on fixed incomes. In its twelfth year of operation, this 100% volunteer-run, non-profit program meets a vital, basic human need for nutritious food and a sense of community in a warm, safe environment.
Description:
We set-up, prepare, serve and clean-up for approximately 155 guests on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. We serve the guests much like a restaurant where they have a feeling of comfort with special attention paid to them. We are open from 5:00 - 9:15 a.m. for volunteers, and serve breakfast from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m for the guests. The volunteers can come to our site at any time during the hours of operation, and there is always work to be done.
History:
Our agency was formed in May, 1997 with only 12 guests in attendance. We have enjoyed many new volunteers although some of the first volunteers are still with the program. We are officially twelve years old! We get funding from the City of Fremont, the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, the Haas Foundation and individual donors. In addition, we have a pick-up crew who gathers donations each weekend from stores such as Safeway and Food Max.
