Tele-Care
Tele-Care is dedicated to making reassuring calls to the elderly, home bound, isolated and convalescent people in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco Counties. This program is free, has been operating since 1970 and calls 300-400 clients, 365 days a year, from our central Berkeley location.
Description:
Four volunteers a day come in and call approx 60-90 people each morning during a three hour shift. Many of our volunteers have been with Tele-Care since the beginning (1970), and all are dedicated and friendly. Our primary purpose is to have one-on-one contact with each person each day they request a call and make sure they are well. If needed, we remind them to take medications, refer them to local agencies and provide support. More than a friendly call, Tele-Care has in place a protocol to follow when we cannot reach a person so we can be assured of their well-being. This provides our clients and their families with a strong sense of security. We also send out a monthly newsletter, holiday and birthday greetings and have both annual volunteer and biennial volunteer and client lunches. We hope you'll join us...we know you'll go home smiling!
History:
Started by three dedicated women at the Herrick Hospital in Berkeley in 1970, Tele-Care operates 365 days a year. We've received multiple awards for the outstanding service we provide our clients, for the comfort we offer, and the lives we have saved over the years. Our volunteers frequently tell us they receive more than give at Tele-Care!
