Description:
To achieve its mission, TAP:---Provides financial support for monastic centers, lamas, monks, nuns and lay people. ---Sponsors traditional ceremonies of all major schools of Tibetan Buddhism. ---Funds production, shipping and distribution of sacred texts, art and prayer wheels for donation to institutions and individuals. ---Promotes awareness of Tibet's heritage in the West through publications, presentations, exhibits, mailings, special events, and the production and sale of cultural artifacts.
History:
Since the disruption and near annihilation of Tibetan civilization in the 1950s, the exiled Tibetan people have struggled to retain their ancient traditions. Since 1969, the Tibetan Aid Project (TAP), founded by Tibetan lama Tarthang Rinpoche, has helped in this struggle. TAP functions on a non-sectarian and non-political basis.
