Caring Hands Volunteer Caregivers Program
Caring Hands is a collaborative effort of John Muir Health, congregations of various religious faiths, social service agencies, and the community at large. Our mission is to create one-on-one matches between caring volunteers and isolated, frail and disabled seniors over the age of 60, enabling them to remain in their homes as long as safely possible.
Description:
Volunteers are asked to provide between 1 - 3 hours of service each week for a minimum of six months. Our life-enhancing services include friendly phone calling in conjunction with any other service, friendly visiting and companionship, transportation and escort to doctor appointments and other related services, assistance with shopping and errands, respite care (rest for the family caregiver), reading mail and letter writing, light household tasks and light meal preparation, minor home repairs and yard work.
History:
Caring Hands was founded in 1998 and is a Faith in Action program. John Muir Health serves as our fiscal sponsoring agency and provides significant in-kind and financial support. Caring Hands is a community based program and serves seniors regardless of who provides their health care, and serves seniors living in Central, South, and East Contra Costa County
