Lindsay Wildlife Museum connects people with wildlife to inspire responsibility and respect for the world we share.
Our animal ambassadors are at the core of our programs. All were brought to Lindsay Wildlife Museum because of injuries that would not allow them to survive in the wild or with behaviors indicating they had imprinted on humans. Our primary concern is the welfare of the animals, not only for their sake, but also to demonstrate appropriate respect and responsibility for all living things. Our animal ambassadors include birds of prey such as eagles, hawks and owls; non-raptors such as California quail, mourning doves and ravens; mammals including fox, bobcat, coyote and opossums; and amphibians and reptiles such as snakes, iguanas, tortoises and turtles.

Description:
Lindsay Wildlife Museum has more than 5,000 members and is the 15th largest museum in the San Francisco Bay Area. More than 500 volunteers are active in wildlife rehabilitation, children?s education and collections management. Our hospital treats annually more than 5,000 native wild native animals and more than 100,000 people a year come through our doors or attend one of our educational events. Continually recognized for its programming, Lindsay Wildlife Museum is included in the ?Bay Area Parent's Hall of Fame? and Diablo Magazine has named Lindsay Wildlife Museum the ?Best East Bay Museum? and ?Best Place to Volunteer in the Bay Area.?

History:
Since 1955, Lindsay Wildlife Museum has helped foster environmentally aware citizens. Through education programs, a wildlife hospital, our ?animal ambassadors,? natural history exhibits and wildlife-friendly gardens, Lindsay Wildlife Museum provides a portal to nature through which people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can connect to wildlife.

Lindsay Wildlife Museum was founded in 1955 by businessman, Alexander Lindsay, who loved teaching children about nature. More and more people started coming to the organization with animals that had been injured or orphaned due to loss of habitat. In response, a formal wildlife rehabilitation program (the first of its kind in the U.S.) began in 1970. In 1993, a new 28,000-square-foot facility opened, which included formal classrooms, exhibit halls and a wildlife hospital.
