Contra Costa Kops For Kids

Our mission is to help prevent drug abuse, gangs, violence, and juvenile delinquency in Contra Costa County by providing athletic, educational, and other programs to at-risk youth.

Description:
We award grants of up to $250 for an individual child and up to $1,000 for a group of four or more children that are mentored by an active or retired law enforcement officer. This is our Kops For Kids Youth Mentoring Program. So far more than $100,000 in grants have been awarded.

Our Positive Mental Attitudes Seminars & Sports Clinics Program is for high school, and sometimes middle school, students in Contra Costa County. Last school year this program reached more than1,600 of the students in these schools. It combines classroom presentations and sports clinics in basketball, softball, volleyball, swimming, and other sports.

Sometimes we provide grants to obtain sports equipment for schools that don't have any, so they can continue the Positive Mental Attitudes program on their own.

History:
We incorporated in 1995 to host the 1998 California Police Summer Games, which brought more than 5,000 officers to Contra Costa and Alameda Counties to participate in more than 60 different sports. We promised our sponsors a program where officers could mentor youth and we have been doing that now for more than 10 years.
