We partner with the City of Concord to put gardens in Markham Nature Park and Arboretum. Plants used originate from all around the world from areas that have our similar climate. We seek to show people the diverse vegetation that can be used in this area.

Description:
Markham Regional Arboretum Society is a non-profit organization that helps the City of Concord administer to the Markham Nature Park and Arboretum. We have a plant nursery where we propagate plants to be sold at plant sales and other times that we are open. All the money raised goes into the gardens and for outreach into the community.

We raise money to put these gardens in the park by our memberships and by our plant sales. We propagate about 99 percent of all our plants, and one may volunteer on Tuesdays or Saturdays from 9am to 12 noon. Volunteering is very informal and we will be happy to teach you about propagation and share any knowledge about gardening with you.

History:
Markham Regional Arboretum Society was formed in 1981 to partner with the City of Concord. We are a non-profit all volunteer organization and as such, volunteers are our most precious and scarce commodity.
The park is mostly natural with a stream running through it. In 1995 the City put in an expensive hardscape to create an International Garden. This has been the focus of the organization since.

There are opportunities to volunteer to create different areas of the International Garden and assist with preparation and planting.

Also, Galindo Creek runs through the nature park. There are opportunities for people who have knowledge of creeks and creek restoration to help us protect our creek. Currently, we have had no volunteers who have been interested in this area, but we are happy to entertain suggestions and recommendations that will enhance our area of the creek.
