Las Trampas, Inc.

Las Trampas supports adults with developmental disabilities to discover their capabilities and to lead fuller lives in their homes, at work, and in the community.

Description:
Las Trampas is committed to helping each person succeed in all aspects of daily living. For
one person that might be training in life skills that allow him to share an apartment. For another, it might be coaching her on the job every day so she can earn a paycheck. Each person has the support needed to discover his or her capabilities and make choices, to be a part of the community. Las Trampas offers residential programs in both licensed group homes and supported living in Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, and Concord. Our Lafayette campus is home base for a vocational and developmental day program.

History:
Since 1958, Las Trampas has supported people with developmental disabilities. In the late 1950's parents and community members raised the funds to purchase the Helen Lucas School and founded Las Trampas as a non-profit residential school. In 1967, new facilities were built, doubling the number of residents and creating a community day school. In the 1970s the emphasis of the school evolved to include training in self-help skills and a training activity center. By the mid-1980's as other resources developed for academic education and more of our students entered adulthood, we began to provide support so that groups of six could live in state licensed homes, while the emphasis in training began to shift to independent living skills. In the 1990's we were part of a pilot project in Supported Living that continues to offer options for those who do not need licensed care. The campus dormitories were soon closed as everyone reached toward the goal of full inclusion in the community.
