Lao Family Community Development Inc.
Lao Family Community Development, Inc. is a nonprofit economic development agency dedicated to assisting Southeast Asian refugees, immigrant, and other low-income communities to adapt to life in the United States, and to achieve long term social and financial security. We seek volunteers for our multi-lingual homeownership center to help dire families struggling to keep their homes from foreclosure, mentors and speakers for our small business development program, youth program, and mentors for families who are learning about retirement planning and financial coaching. Furthermore, we are looking for special events volunteers and new board members with professional and community backgrounds. Description:
Lao Family's diverse programs include asset development, foreclosure intervention, financial education, affordable housing, small business development, employment placement and training, family support, and youth education and employment services to help limited English-speaking and low-income families, youth, and seniors in Oakland's lower San Antonio/Fruitvale neighborhoods.
History:
Lao Family was founded in 1980 originally to serve refugees from Laos who were resettled in the Bay Area. Today Lao Family's services have expanded to include immigrant population from all corners of the world as well as American born at risk populations. Lao Family offers life critical services that support the integration of immigrant and refugee families into society. Services also help these families as well as others struggling with economic independence to achieve self-sufficiency.
