The Monument Crisis Center is a non-profit community based organization that provides assistance to at- risk families, children , seniors and individuals in Central Contra Costa County. The mission of the center is to provide food, offer help and referrals in crisis situations and promote community awareness of needs and available resources.

Description:
Our agency is open for food distribution Monday through Thursday, 9am-12pm and Tuesday evenings 5:00pm-7:00pm to distribute boxes of nutritious food to families and individuals. There are about 4,200 households registered for assistance and an average of approximately 60-120 families come per day for assistance. We also provide daily perishables of bread, fruit and vegetables when available. We have 7 full time staff persons and 3 part-time staff persons and everyone else is volunteer. We need help sorting, packing food, bagging pastries, coffee, bread and also office help filing, and additional help with for the clients with referral and translation particularly Spanish. We also need assistance picking up and delivering donations to the center.

History:
Our agency has been open for 5 years. We began with backing from the local Soroptimists groups, Carondelet High School, Salvation Army and Safeway. We now have backing from a variety of local businesses, church groups and individuals and a new partnership with Starbucks. We are entirely dependent on the good will and hard work of our volunteers who provide all the necessary assistance to keep our doors open to serve the poor of our community.
