Berkeley Lodge #162

We aim to increase literacy in young children by collecting and donating used children's books to Oakland Children's Hospital and the Monument Crisis Center.

Description:
Berkeley Lodge #162 is the local unit of the Knights of Pythias, a 141 yr. old international fraternal order based on the principles of friendship, charity and benevolence. It was the first fraternal order in the U.S. to be granted a Charter by an Act of Congress. Presidents Harding, McKinley and Franklin D. Roosevelt were knights. We support Oakland Children's Hospital with funds, helmets and infant carseats; send 9-11 yr. old children-at-risk to summer camp; make special presentations to Eagle Scouts at their Courts of Honor and work with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Dept. at Bike Rodeos.

History:
Berkeley Lodge #162 is a 118 yr.old unit of the Knights of Pythias which was established Feb. 19, 1864 in Washington,D.C. with the endorsement of President Abraham Lincoln in an effort to reunite the Country after the Civil War. Our mission is to promote World Peace through understanding among men of good will.
