Board Link Position |
| Description: |
|
Our hope is to bring in four new members as a group by the beginning of March. With this expansion our board hopes to increase it’s diversity in three different ways. • Ethnic and Cultural Diversity: We are particularly interested in enhancing our cultural and ethnic diversity and hope that at least three of the four new board members are people of color. We are particularly interested in adding African Americans and Latinos to our board since a large proportion of our client base comes from those communities. • Geographic Diversity: AFS has grown much in the past decade. We need board representation particularly from residents of Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano Counties. • Diversity of interest and expertise: Our board would like to welcome new members from a variety of professional backgrounds including marketing, public relations, human resources, media, technology, politics, fund development and others.

| Board Member Responsibilities:: |
|
Members need to commit to attending three board meetings per year, scheduled well in advance, roughly during the months of October, February and June. Meetings will be held in different locations in the Bay Area where AFS operates programs. Board members must also agree to serve on one of two standing committees. The Program Committee oversees all of the agency’s programs. This committee is appropriate for board members most interested in ensuring the delivery of high quality services to our clients. The Finance Committee oversees the agency’s budget and fiscal activities and serves as the Audit Committee. AFS obtains an independent CPA audit annually. |
