Habitot Children's Museum seeks business, academic and civic leaders who are passionate about investing in young children. Children's success in reaching their potential has everything to do with their experiences in the critical first five years of life. Habitot helps children arrive at school ready to learn by providing enriching play-based experiences, supporting parents and caregivers in developing their parenting skills and in embracing a diverse community. Well-connected individuals are needed who can help the Museum build its internal capacity to support growth and stability. The following is a list of skill sets needed for our board: ACADEMIC - Researcher who can help document the impact of museum programs utilizing strategic partnerships at schools and universities. Expert who can provide testimonials about the benefits of museum programs and can guide the development of services provided. ACCOUNTANT - Individual who can oversee financial operations and the annual audit. COMMUNITY BUILDER - Well-connected liaison to potential partners among elected or appointed government officials, foundations, service agencies, non-profits, churches and family networks. ENTREPRENEUR - Small business owner who has addressed the challenges of growth while remaining financially stable. Creative individuals who can help develop the museum's existing or potential earned revenue streams. FUNDRAISER - Individual[s] who enjoy creating fundraising events or soliciting others for worthy causes. REAL ESTATE DEVELOPER - Knowledgeable guide to identifying and securing donated space for museum expansion. PR/MARKETING - Professional who can support the museum's branding and marketing efforts, or who can garner publicity in print or other media. LEGAL - Attorney who can oversee compliance with organizational standards and regulations, and advise on employment law, intellectual property, contracts, landlord-lease, and other legal matters that arise. Job Description Authority and Responsibility: The Board of Directors is the governing authority of Habitot Children's Museum, a nonprofit organization. As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. Qualifications and Skills: Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: cultural facilities, property development, legal, finance, marketing/promotion, fundraising. Term: Directors are elected by the board at a quarterly meeting. Directors serve for a two-year term. Requirements
- Commitment to the mission and work of the organization
- Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: cultural facilities, property development, legal, finance, marketing/promotion, fundraising.
- Willingness to serve on at least one committee and actively participate; attendance at Board meetings four times per year, one annual meeting, and periodic committee conference calls or meetings.
- An estimated time commitment of ten hours per month, (includes Board preparation, meeting and committee meeting time).
- Stay informed on the programs and services provided by Habitot Children's Museum and publicly support them. Prepare for and participate in the discussions and the deliberations of the Board.
- Lead by example with Habitot's fundraising efforts. Make an annual monetary contribution that is your most significant charitable giving while on the board.

- Governing Habitot Children's Museum in accordance with the museum's bylaws.
- Promote Habitot's mission and help grow audience and membership through community networking.
- Commit to boosting attendance of yearly fundraising luncheon and other special events.
- Cultivate and/or initiate relationships with prospective donors and supporters.
- Establish overall strategic direction, long and short term goals, annual objectives and priorities for the Museum.
- Demonstrate leadership and commitment to organizational values.
Be aware of and disclose any personal and/or professional conflict of interest.
