Description: CRITERIA FOR Berkeley Chamber Performances (BCP) BOARD MEMBERSHIP:
BCP is seeking experienced and passionate individuals who are willing to invest time, resources, and energy in growing and governing our organization. We are looking for persons with operational acumen and a true interest in the performing arts. Board of Director positions are purely voluntary.

BENEFITS OF BCP BOARD MEMBERSHIP:
Each Berkeley Chamber Performances Board member becomes an integral part of our organization, which nurtures the cultural vitality of the Bay Area community to continue developing music as a dynamic tradition, and each has the opportunity to further his/her knowledge of the arts, to network with artists and other arts professionals, and to enjoy the unique, intimate experience of live chamber music with fellow enthusiasts.
Board Member Responsibilities:: BOARD MEMBER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Each Director (Trustee) will be loyal to the Mission, Values, and Vision of Berkeley Chamber Performances and will know the organization’s goals, policies, programs, strengths and needs.

Board Members have a fiduciary and a financial duty to BCP.

Fiduciary Responsibilities:
  • To evaluate policies and to participate ACTIVELY in all affairs and meetings
  • To monitor the CEO
  • To work in good faith with staff, volunteers and Board members as partners toward achieving our mutual goals
  • To exercise prudence in the control of funds
  • To read faithfully and understand financial statements and otherwise help the Board fulfill its fiduciary responsibility.

  • Fundraising Responsibilities:
  • To make an annual financial gift according to personal means, if not at a leadership level.
  • To assist BCP’s development financially, by expertise, or through pro bono services [i.e., to help build a network of folks who 1) Share Core Values (e.g., they like chamber music and care about community and BCP), 2) Are eager to become involved, and 3) have the MEANS to help].
  • To assist BCP’s financial committees by implementing fundraising strategies through personal influence with others (corporations, individuals, foundations).

  • Further Responsibilities of a Trustee of BCP:
  • Determining BCP’s mission and purpose
  • Selecting the Chief Executive
  • Providing proper financial oversight
  • Ensuring adequate resources for BCP to fulfill its mission
  • Ensuring legal and ethical integrity and maintaining accountability
  • Ensuring effective organizational planning
  • Recruiting and orienting new board members and assessing Board performance
  • Enhancing the organizations’ public standing
  • Determining, monitoring, and strengthening BCP’s programs and services
  • Supporting the Chief Executive and assessing his/her performance
