Alternative Family Services (AFS), a foster care, adoptions and mental health services agencies for children and youth is seeking to expand its current board from five to nine directors. A regional organization throughout the Bay Area, AFS has office locations in San Francisco, Alameda, Solano, Sonoma, and Marin Counties. In addition AFS operates significant programming in Contra Costa County. Our budget for the current fiscal year is approximately $11.5 million. All AFS revenue is derived from local government, the largest portion of which consists of fees for the care of foster children. In the past the AFS Board has not been involved in fund raising, though as budgets get tighter, fundraising may become more necessary. Members need to commit to attending three board meetings per year, scheduled well in advance, roughly during the months of October, February and June. Meetings will be held in different locations in the Bay Area where AFS operates programs. Board members must also agree to serve on one of two standing committees. The Program Committee oversees all of the agency’s programs. This committee is appropriate for board members most interested in ensuring the delivery of high quality services to our clients. The Finance Committee oversees the agency’s budget and fiscal activities and serves as the Audit Committee. AFS obtains an independent CPA audit annually. This opportunity is sponsored by: Alternative Family Services
