Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on February 5, 2009

Do you have an interest in supporting frail elders and their family caregivers? Are you outgoing and like talking with people? The Adult Day Services Network of Alameda County is seeking a volunteer to assist the Communications Director in staffing health fair tables and giving information about Adult Day centers to family and friends who are caring for a frail, elderly or disabled loved one.

Adult Day Service centers are group, daytime programs for elderly and disabled adults that include: transportation to and from home, hot lunch, exercise, and therapeutic recreational activities such as art, music and singing, current events discussions, talent shows, ice cream socials and lots more. There are 14 adult day programs in Alameda County. All of them are run by nonprofit organizations. The Adult Day Services Network provides information on all 14 centers and caregiving to community members and professionals and makes referrals to appropriate Adult Day centers.

We are seeking an organized, outgoing volunteer to help staff the health fairs and community events in Alameda County. S/he will accompany the Communications Director at health fairs, and after being trained, may staff some health fairs alone. In addition to giving out information at the events, s/he will also work at the Network office to prepare the supplies for the health fair and make copies and collate written materials. The volunteer should also have a car and be willing to transport health fair materials.

We attend 10-12 health fairs or community events a year. Most are during the week, occasionally a health fair is on a Saturday or Sunday.

Volunteer must have a car that s/he is willing to use to transport community outreach materials. There will be occasional Saturday or Sunday work, most is during the week.
