Shelf Stewards keep Livermore Public Library collections in order by insuring library materials are shelved correctly and moving them to accommodate changes in library collections. Key Responsibilities
•Systematically check shelves for correct Dewey Decimal order •Move library materials as needed to alleviate crowding on library shelves and accommodate changes in library collections •Refer patron requests or questions to appropriate library staff person •Complete work neatly and accurately, and with a minimum of distraction to library users A library staff member will provide a general orientation to the library, as well as specific training on the Dewey Decimal System, shelf reading, and safe and proper methods of shifting.
•Ability to arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order •Physical ability to stand for long periods of time; push wheeled book carts weighing up to 50 lbs.; read spine labels; and repeatedly bend, stretch, reach, lift, grasp, and place library materials on shelves •Willingness to become familiar with the Dewey Decimal System •Willingness and ability to work independently and quietly in the library
