Development Director for a not-for-profit youth mentoring organization Fundraising Volunteer Positions
Powered by Truist

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 21, 2009

We are looking for a volunteer development director. This person is a member of our board of directors and chairs the Development Committee. They also serve as a member of the Executive Committee.

We have several fund raisers that are ongoing and a Centurions group of private donors who contribute at least $100 a year. Our fund raisers are a run in May, a golf tournament in September, and an Oakland Raiders Football game in November.

We have a paid part-time marketing coordinator and grant writer. Last year we obtained almost $30,000 in grants out of an operating budget of $70,000.

Our efforts are in mentoring at-risk youth in Contra Costa County. We budget $20,000 a year for grants to active and retired law enforcement officers who are mentoring youth. This year that's about 3,000 youngsters.

We also have a Positive Mental Attitudes Seminars & Sports Clinics that we do in middle and high schools, including continuation and alternative schools in Contra Costa County. Last school year we had another 2,000+ student contacts. This year we are running ahead of that number so far.

We'd like somebody with experience in fund raising and development to bring some expertise to our board of directors. Many of our board members are retired, but still want to be involved.

They should be good at working with a group and dealing with the frustrations of fund raising in this economy. They should want to help youth succeed in life.
