Assist animal management staff in the care and feeding of Zoo animals. May be required to assist in building & grounds maintenance, including landscaping, maintenance and repair of exhibits and equipment. Clean exhibit areas and night house areas; assist keepers in preparing diets and enrichment items; report any apparent problems to supervisor. Other duties as assigned. Must be 16 years old or older. Must attend Volunteer Orientation; have a command of both spoken and written English; be able to communicate via radio, in case of emergency; be able to negotiate over uneven, rocky and/or muddy ground without assistance; be comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather conditions; be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance; be able to follow directions; have required medical documentation on file before working first shift (negative TB test and tetanus inoculation). Must make a minimum commitment of one 4-hour shift per week for 6 consecutive months. This opportunity is sponsored by: Oakland Zoo
