What is more powerful for bringing up positive emotion than that certain song or tender piece of music? As a retired professional singer/song-writer and San Francisco Records 1970'recording artist I wholeheartedly recommend donating your talents for a LITA show at one of the 21+ convalescent hospitals LITA serves. I toured with Cat Stevens, James Taylor was kind enough to have me open his show at the Fillmore East Auditorium in New York. I double billed with Janice Joplin, Gracie Slick and Taj Mahal in San Francisco, recorded and played with Herbie Hancock at the Great American Music Hall. None of these experiences, as grand as they were touched my heart and sent me away as elated my LITA shows. It is like sending a healing and gently energizing rain of love down on receptive, beautiful souls gathered for a performance in the hospital. What bright eyes and sweet smiles!! Members of MTZO Martinez Opera Company of Contra Costa have made regular appearances as LITA Entertainment Volunteers. Terry Cunningham of Mem'ry Lane and the San Ramon Community Theater. Tim the Magician, Christine Saddul clarinetist, John Gruenstein Folk Singer, Clifford Lamb jazz pianist, Nathan Shockey classical pianist and many other entertainers have joined LITA to bring their music to hospital residents. Why not you? I promise you will go away with a wonderful high unlike any other. People who have not spoken in years, frequently begin to sing the lyrics of beloved songs from their era. Spirited toe-tapping to great rhythmic music happens when there has not been much motion at all, for a long time. These are frequent patient reactions to music and dance and any kind of art coming up close personal and from the heart. I do my best as Executive Director to extend myself once a month and sometimes more, to do concerts as an Entertainment Volunteer. LITA helps set up performances for dancers, singers, and instrumentalists of all kinds, Magicians and comedians are welcome as well as any kind of variety artist. If your dog does cute tricks, you may be perfect to include in a show. Let's be in touch and talk about it.
