Overall Experience

Dorothy Day House is one of the hardest working volenteer groups I've ever met. It isn't the physical labor of just making breakfast for the many, many homeless in Berkeley, its the fullfillment of helping your community heal on meal at a time. The first time a homeless person comes up to you and says, " You won't be seeing me anymore, because I'm no longer homeless. Thank you for all you've done" I dare anyone not to feel so overwhelmed with emotions, and it bring you back week after week. I truely learned what dignity is all about. I want to say thanks to all the great folks at Dorothy Day House for the past two years I have volenteered with them. It was indeed a true life growing experience. posted by barrettlinn on April 3, 2009 |
