Our Next Generation, Inc.
Our Next Generation, Inc. has been working with Milwaukee's children and youth for the past 16 years to help them achieve academic and personal excellence. Our programming addresses the academic, social, and behavioral needs of youth all in an interconnected and long-term fashion. In the past few years the number of children and youth served has grown by more than 700% and volunteer tutors and mentors are needed throughout the school year and summer. Volunteers are integral to the students’ success and engage and positively impact them through:
- One-on-one academic support and enrichment
- Small group activities such as reading and poetry groups, arts and crafts, and writing, mathematics and character building workshops
- Special projects and activities to encourage creativity, discussion and community
- Interpersonal relationships that foster self confidence and respect
Thank you for learning more about the many ways you can help students achieve academic and personal success. We look forward to discussing your interests and availability. Please check our website for program highlights and ongoing and new volunteer opportunities at www.ongkids.org.

Overall Experience

The hour I spend each week mentoring my student is the most rewarding and powerful hour of my week.
 |
I tutor a second-grader every Wednesday night. First we work through her homework and then read and discuss a book from their Literacy Enrichment program. Although our work is often serious, we laugh a lot and sometimes color together. I get a lot of joy from doing this work, and I know that I am making a difference in this child's life. I believe that we can overcome the effects of poverty by helping one child at a time. posted by dcnkay on March 14, 2009 |

Overall Experience

I am not sure I am matched as well as I could be with a student.
 |
I enjoy working with the students and helping them with their work. I have had a positive experience because the children come to the homework club ready to work and I feel they appreciate the help they receive. posted on March 12, 2009 |

Overall Experience

Building a one-on-one relationship with an individual student was an awesome experience.

I have tutored not only with my work organization in an on-site tutoring program, but also at Our Next Generation's center. Working with these children provided me with so much personal satisfaction that it's hard to put in words. These children will touch your heart. posted by Peggy Taylor on March 12, 2009 |
