United Community Center/Centro De La Comunidad Unida (UCC)
The United Community Center (UCC) is a nonprofit, community-based organization that was founded in 1970. UCC's mission is to provide programs to Hispanics and near south side residents, of all ages, in the areas of education, cultural arts, recreation, community development, and health and human services. UCC will assist individuals to achieve their potential by focusing on cultural heritage as a means of strengthening personal development.
Description:
UCC is a comprehensive, social service agency serving Hispanics and residents of Milwaukee's near south side. Programs and services include: *Bruce Guadalupe Community School--an MPS charter school for children in K-4 through 5th grade. *Community Learning Center--an after school educational supplement that includes tutoring, reading, science, arts, and financial education. *Square Development Initiative--a program designed to increase neighborhood stability by increasing home ownership, rehabilitating houses, and organizing residents. *Senior Center--provides a gathering place for 100 elderly people on a daily basis. *Adult Day Care--serves a more frail population of seniors and provides meals, health care, social activities, and personal care services.
