Friedens Community Ministries
Mission: To provide a three-day supply of emergency food to people applying for Milwaukee County's FoodShare program and who are unsuccessful in obtaining approval due to paperwork issues. To be eligible to be served by Friedens Coggs pantry, clients must obtain a referral from a Milwaukee County case worker.
Description:
Friedens provides food supplied by The Emergency Food Assistance Program, TEFAP, which is administered in Milwaukee by the Hunger Task Force. Eligible clients must be living below 185% of the federal poverty level, as required by the TEFAP program. Additional food supplies come from the FEMA program, and purchased from Second Harvest and Share, and donated by Pick 'n Save, Bread Smith, Inc., and many faith and civic groups. Friedens is supported financially in part by faith groups, individual donors, the Racine Dominicans, St. Benedict's, St. Vincent De Paul Society, and the United Way of Greater Milwaukee. Volunteers are the heart and soul of Friedens' pantries. With them we are able to fulfill our promise to "feed, encourage, educate, nurture, and seek justice for all people in Greater Milwaukee."
