Artists Working In Education, Inc.
The mission of Artists Working in Education, Inc. is to provide youth in the Milwaukee area with arts enrichment programs to enhance human potential, advance learning and cultivate community.
Description:
AWE has two main initiatives -- the Truck Studio Program, a mobile art program which brings free art experiences to children in Milwaukee parks and playgrounds, and at community events; and the School Studio Program, which sponsors professional artists to help children create major collaborative works of art in Milwaukee schools. AWE believes that all children should have the opportunity not only to look at art, read about art or write about art but to CREATE art. AWE was founded in 1998 by a group of local art educators, museum curators and artists concerned about decreases in funding both locally and nationally for the arts in education. Volunteers help AWE carry out its mission by assisting professional artists with imaginative hands-on art projects with children in Milwaukee's most challenged schools and neighborhoods.
