R.E.A.D.Y. Club Assistant/Speakers

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 30, 2009

Help teens learn about emergency and disaster management by assisting with the club year round or serving as a guest speaker. This club meets on the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month.

R.E.A.D.Y. stands for Responding to Emergencies and Disasters with Youth and is for youth 13-17 yrs. Our goal is to introduce teens to learn a variety of skills including how to respond in emergencies, prevention strategies to keep people safe, problem solving, first-aid, team building, public speaking, grant writing and more. Club members complete 3 or more community service projects a year and have opportunities to attend specialized trainings. Social activities like hayrides and trips are also part of the fun. Team members have opportunities to plan fundraisers, attend a week-long summer camp in Madison, Wisconsin that teaches them specialized skills, gives them access to professionals in medical, military, & public service careers and develops teens as leaders in our community. Teens with the best attendance in the program have the first opportunity to go to camp at a reduced fee. This club collaborates with The American Red Cross Youth Club program and The Center for School, Youth and Citizen Preparedness. It is also a great College Prep program and is good for college admittance.
The Bay View Community Center is looking for either an assistant to help with the club year round and/or speakers to discuss safety issues with the teens. Volunteers who have experience in civil service, emergency preparedness, medical training, etc. are preferred.

This opportunity is not open to court appointed volunteers. Volunteers must be college or post college adults or adults with comparable life experience or training. Volunteers who have experience in emergency management, youth work, prevention training, leadership skills, etc. are preferred.

This opportunity is sponsored by: Bay View Community Center
