Kansas Audio-Reader Network
The University of Kansas Audio-Reader Network exists to provide print-disabled Kansans with access to the printed word and other technologies. Audio-Reader services are provided to enable print-disabled Kansans the opportunity to live their lives with the greatest possible independence.
Description:
Audio-Reader is a closed circuit radio station serving the blind and print-disabled in Kansas and Missouri. We have approximately 300 volunteers who record a variety of newspapers, magazines and books that are broadcast via this radio signal to our subscribers free of charge. In addition, we provide recordings of the Kansas City Star, Topeka Capital-Journal and University Daily Kansan via telephone. This on-demand system allows our subscribers to access the newspapers in their entirety on-demand, and allows some of our volunteers to record from home. We also provide recordings of materials requested specifically by subscribers, and we describe live theatre.
