Agency Details:
Arts Council Of Metropolitan Kansas City
The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City strengthens and enriches the community through the arts by developing visibility, participation, support, information, education and partnerships.
Description:
The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City was founded in March of 1999. The Arts Council was started as a result of a two-year community study process called the Community Arts Initiative, under the direction of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. Today, the Arts Council is a stand-alone non-profit organization that serves Jackson, Clay, and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas. The Arts Council uses three main strategic initiatives to work towards its mission: increasing arts funding, developing community leadership and raising awareness of the arts. Under our funding initiative, the Arts Council is focusing on developing the ArtsKC Fund. The ArtsKC Fund’s main purpose is to provide a stable source of new funding for the arts. The Arts Council has been also working to increase public funding for the arts in our metropolitan area. Under our community leadership initiative, the Arts Council works to develop both individual leadership and a broad base of community support for arts initiatives. To continue to thrive and grow, Kansas City’s arts community must have metropolitan-wide support. Under our awareness initiative, the Arts Council works to increase awareness of arts and culture and their impact on quality of life issues in our metropolitan community. If the community doesn't know what is available to them in regards to arts and culture amenities, they can't take advantage of them or support them.
