As a "Sidewalker" at CLO's Midnight Farm, you will be a vital part of a new and quickly expanding equestrian program for challenged riders, both children and adults who have various disabilities. Midnight Farm's therapeutic horse-back riding program requires that a volunteer sidewalker work in conjunction with a NARHA-certified instructor and a volunteer horse leader to provide support and safety for the rider. As a sidewalker, you will greet the rider upon arrival and help them put on their riding helmet and participate in the class. After the 1-hour class, you will accompany the rider out of the arena to take off their helmet and interact with them and their family/friends as they reflect on their riding experience and just enjoy relaxing for awhile in Midnight Farm's lodge. Certainly you will be helping to bring about many smiles, enjoyment and therapeutic benefits that are possible when persons with disabilities have the opportunity to participate in horse-back riding. This position does not require the volunteer to have experience working with horses, but the volunteer must enjoy being around horses and have some level of comfort with horses. Experience working with children/adults with developmental disabilities is a plus, but also not required. A 3-hour training session is provided by Midnight Farm and is required. Further training may be offered as needed/requested. This opportunity is sponsored by: CLO - Community Living Opportunities
