Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on August 10, 2009 |
Volunteers are needed year-round, but mostly January - June. Volunteer work includes organization, event coordination, maintenance, and much more. The actual events are held during the months of May and June, but communication and awareness of the event throughout the Kansas City community goes on year-round. 2006 will mark the 27th year for the Kansas City Corporate Challenge! Started in 1980, the Kansas City Corporate Challenge is an Olympic-type event that allows Kansas City Area corporations to interact with each other through a variety of sporting events. The first, and one of the largest corporate games in the country, the KCCC looks forward to even more growth in the years to come. The Kansas City Corporate Challenge has grown from 18 companies and 1,500 individual participants in 1980, to 152 companies and over 20,000 individual participants in 2005. This number of 20,000 does not duplicate the many individuals who compete in multiple KCCC Games, which makes our participation well over 35,000! The 152 companies involved in 2005 represent an employee base of more than 150,000 Kansas City individuals who are familiar with the KCCC. Several thousand more are spectators and another 1,500 serve as volunteers to assist with the Games. The KCCC Games have more than twice as many competitors as the Olympic Games themselves! The philosophy of the KCCC has always been to promote employee fitness and recreation within the Kansas City business community. No other event offers the diversity of sporting opportunities that are provided by the Kansas City Corporate Challenge. We offer something for everyone. Recreational activities such as darts, horseshoes and fishing are represented as well as competitive athletic events such as softball, volleyball, swimming, and running. A non-competitive walk is one of the most popular events in the KCCC and gives everyone a reason to get out and be active! Some of the many benefits to the companies who participate in the Kansas City Corporate Challenge are: it improves employee morale; it allows employees to work together as a team outside of the workplace, building friendships and stronger work relationships; it allows employees to network with employees from other Kansas City area businesses; and most importantly it gives these participants a reason to be active and contributes to their overall well-being. We’ve seen it work......many employees train year round for the KCCC, many have stopped smoking, dropped excess weight, and have simply begun to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Some volunteer work may be physical in nature. This opportunity is sponsored by: Johnson County Park and Recreation District
