Picture this: For 50 years Margie hardly had to think twice about jumping in her car and dashing off to the grocery store, post office, beauty shop, doctor's office, etc. When she needed groceries or a stamp she just got in the car and went.
Now at 78, she lives with arthritis and macular degeneration which leave her unable to drive. She could take a cab but the cost will add up when she considers round-trip rides to a monthly doctor's appointment and weekly trips to the grocery store. The bus line is an option but the nearest stop is blocks away.
In this situation, Shepherd's Center can step in and help Margie access "essential destinations" like the doctor, medical treatments, grocery store and so on. Volunteers like you can donate time and gas to give people like Margie much needed access to transportation.
One of Shepherd's Center focuses is to help older adults stay independent and in their homes. Help us solve one piece of that puzzle by providing transportation. Donate one morning or afternoon a week (or month) and take an older adult to the grocery store or doctor. Help them maintain a routine by taking them to the beauty shop or stores like Target and Wal-Mart. Contact us today for more information about helping older adults in the Brookside/Waldo communities.
