Sunflower House is a child abuse prevention center serving Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas. Each year we provide a safe and warm place for over 450 children to tell their stories of abuse, receive a comprehensive medical exam and get the care they need to begin healing.
Our education program reaches out to over 27,000 children, parents and professionals to teach our community how to RECOGNIZE, RESIST and REPORT child abuse. Our staff visits over 220 schools in Johnson and Wyandotte County to bring our "P.S. It's My Body Happy Bear
Sunflower House and Haake Companies join each October to host Pumpkin Palooza, a fun, family-centered fall event featuring a designer pumpkin sale, a fabulous prize drawing, Disney-themed haunted house, children's activities and a visit from Happy Bear. Proceeds from Pumpkin Palooza benefit Sunflower House and the thousands of children and families we reach.
Volunteer artists and crafters from our community gather at Sunflower House to create these spectacular pumpkins that delight young and old alike. These unique pumpkins are hand-painted and crafted with great care and last well past Halloween. Pumpkins are sold to the public during Pumpkin Palooza on Saturday, October 17 from 8:00a.m.-4:00p.m." play to young children.
Pumpkin Palooza Volunteer Needs:
WHO:Talented Artists & Crafters!
WHAT: To design, paint & craft 800 unique real pumpkins with Halloween themes, cartoon characters, sports teams, superheroes & fall themes. Pumpkins will be sold to the public on Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 8:00a.m.-4:00p.m. at Sunflower House.
WHEN: Late September/early October. Completed pumpkins must arrive at Sunflower House by 2p.m. on October 16, 2009.
WHERE: Pumpkins will arrive at Sunflower House the last week of September and are available for pick-up after cleaning. Artists may take pumpkins off site or create their masterpieces at Sunflower House where supplies will be provided. Artists are available to come to Sunflower House individually or in groups from 9:00a.m. until 9:00p.m. M-F and 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m. on Saturdays. Special arrangements can be made for Sundays.
WHO:Pumpkin Palooza Event Volunteers
WHAT: Event volunteers to assist with event set-up, parking, check-out, sales, food booth, children's activities, face painting and more.
WHEN: Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 7:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.
Shifts available: 7:00a.m.-11:00a.m.
10:00a.m.-1:00p.m.
1:00p.m.-4:00p.m.
4:00p.m.-6:00p.m. (clean-up)

WHO:Ticket Sale Volunteers (Individuals or Groups)
WHAT: Volunteers to sell Pumpkin Palooza prize drawing tickets for $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. Haake Companies will match all donations up to $15,000.00—all proceeds benefit Sunflower House.
WHEN: September 1, 2009 until October 13, 2009. All tickets and monies must be returned to Sunflower House by Tuesday, October 13, 2009 by 5:00p.m. to be entered in drawing.
