Associated Youth Services (AYS) organizes Hip Hop for Health Fairs in Wyandotte County’s middle and high schools to provide much-needed health information and health screenings to Wyandotte County youth. You have the opportunity to make these fairs more effective by assisting AYS staff!
Volunteers are needed to assist youth as they fill out evaluation forms and to find out when the students have last visited a medical professional. The services provided by Hip Hop for Health Fairs are valuable resources for community youth. Many of these young people do not receive regular medical care and suffer from serious medical conditions like obesity. These children greatly benefit from the information and services that are made available to them through our fairs. As a volunteer, you can help make these fairs possible! You can also gain experience relevant to work in medical and social work fields.
Health fairs take place on Fridays during an entire school day from approx. 7:30 to approx. 3:00. Our health fairs will take place on Oct. 12, Oct. 26, Nov. 16, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Jan. 18, Jan. 25, Feb. 8, Feb. 22, Mar. 14, Mar. 28, Apr. 11, Apr. 25 and May 2.
We need 6-7 volunteers per fair. Volunteers are encouraged to volunteer for many fairs and to volunteer as a group. Each fair takes place at a different Wyandotte County school. Volunteers will receive training on-site and must be over 18 years of age. Each fair is approx. 8 hours long. It is possible to volunteer during only a portion of a fair.
