Description:
Adult Volunteer Programming-

© National Service Days: Is sponsored and promoted by the Points of Light & Hands On Network. National Service Days are celebrate and encompass volunteer activities throughout the year. We celebrate Make a Difference Day, Family Volunteer Day, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We also help coordinate United Ways Day of Caring.

© Community BarnRaising: Uses the old-fashioned idea of “barn-raising’, whereby the community comes together at the same time, in the same place, to achieve a specific goal. We coordinate quarterly community projects that individuals are able to volunteer for.

© Volunteer Database: This database provides the most up to date volunteer opportunities, product connections, board connections for families, workmates, and anyone.

Youth Volunteer Programming -

♥ SummerServe: summer volunteer and career exploration. When school is out you have a lot of free time. SummerServe is a great way to build your resume or explore future professions. It is an eight week program where students ages 13-19 volunteer at least five hours a week.

♥ Volunteens: our school year volunteering program. All students grades 8-12 are eligible to participate. It is a great chance to spend time with your friends and earn hours for graduation, NHS, or a college application. This program offers youth the opportunity to volunteer during the school year.

♥ Avail Project: First time volunteer opportunities for youth. This is a 15 week program where you will have the opportunity to design your own service project and help the community in the way you choose. Avail Project: In partnership with South Hill Academy, Operation GRAD, the Advocates of St Philip Parish, and Kellogg Community College, Handson Battle Creek works to engage youth in meaningful community-based service learning.

♥ Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute: A service-learning program designed to promote community leadership, civic engagement and volunteerism.

Annual Community-wide Volunteer Recognition Event

HandsOn Battle Creek provides human service organizations in Calhoun County the opportunity to honor outstanding volunteers through its annual volunteer recognition event. The awards presented during the luncheon have provided a great way to honor volunteers as they recognize volunteers who have contributed to bettering the Calhoun County community. A panel of judges, made up of community leaders, selects winners in each category. The Volunteer Recognition Luncheon is held each year on the Friday of National Volunteer Week.

211 Call Center -
211 is an easy to remember number for people to call about information and referrals to health/human services in Calhoun County. It is free for Calhoun residents and operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
